I truly do not know where the time went, but somehow we’ve landed on Memorial Day weekend. I’m personally not excited for the humidity (Monica Geller in Barbados, anyone?), but alas—swimsuit season has arrived.
And swimsuit season can be complicated for a lot of reasons. If you’re like me and still battling some stubborn little scars (thank you, laparoscopic excision surgery), or just feeling a little more sensitive about your body this year, I get it. I’ve been there—still am, actually.
After my first endometriosis surgery, my scars were barely visible and mostly faded. But after a routine skin check with my dermatologist (go book yours if you haven’t lately!), a small spot on one of those faded scars turned out to be pre-cancerous. Since then, I’ve been religious about SPF and extra cautious when it comes to sun exposure—especially around scar tissue, which can be more sensitive and prone to discoloration.
This time around, my scars are a little more stubborn. I’ve tried all the things (Mederma might be helping, but the jury’s still out). I wear them proudly, but I’ve also been advised to keep them covered as much as possible—especially when I’m out in the sun.
So, I pulled together a roundup of affordable, stylish one-pieces that offer a bit more coverage without sacrificing cuteness. These are suits that feel good, look good, and offer a little extra sun protection right where I need it.
Swimsuits (L→R):
Cobalt One-Shoulder – Sleek and simple, with asymmetrical appeal. Perfect for minimal tan lines and maximal chic.
Missoni-Inspired Stripes – Shimmering pastel rainbow in a textured knit—endlessly flattering and a little retro.
Floral Bustier – Vintage pin-up vibes with supportive cups and adjustable straps.
Black Polka Dot Classic – A timeless silhouette that goes with every beach bag and book (P.S. follow me on Goodreads and send me any and all suggestions, please and thanks!).
Blue Seersucker Ruffle – Sweet, Southern, and ruffled in all the right places. Great ruched tummy coverage too.
Olive One-Shoulder Tie Side – Adjustable side ties and gathered fabric = comfort and concealment.
Textured Orange Scoop-Neck – Bright, bold, and body-hugging with thin adjustable straps. (It’s giving: “Piper, nooo.” IYKYK.)
Swirly ’70s One-Shoulder – Funky, flattering, and just the right amount of playful.
Blue & Red Floral Ruched – Soft on the skin and strong on support, with the cutest side ties.
Abstract High-Neck Cut-Out – Artistic edge and high-cut leg for a little drama with your SPF.
Whether you’re recovering from surgery, protecting sensitive skin, or just want a suit you can move (and lounge) in with confidence, I’ve got you covered. Literally.
The main reason I no longer wear bikinis are my scars. As I’ve got older they started to look worse as my body changed. They tell my story and I’m proud of them but the world doesn’t need to see them on a beach 😂 x
