This DIY Method Helps Alleviate Period Pain
a natural alternative to anti-inflammatory medications
While the effects haven't been researched in depth, many women swear by this ancient medical practice to alleviate menstrual cramps.Â
If I know my readers, us endo gals are desperate and willing to try just about anything to get a smidge of relief from the debilitating pain interfering with our daily lives soooo let's dive in..
Castor oil is said to reduce inflammation, stimulate blood and lymph fluid and reduce painful period cramps.
Applied topically, its powerful anti-spasmodic activity works to soothe and stimulate proper lymphatic circulation, all aiding in pelvic pain relief. Â
I recently tried this out and found that while the castor oil didn't work miracles, it did kick the pain relief faster than if I were just using my regular heating pad without the oil. Â
DIY
You can apply the oil directly to your skin, covered with a clean cloth (flannel is said to work best) and plastic wrap, followed by placing a heat source (hot water bottle or heating pad) over the pack and let it sit for 30 to 60 minutes. Â
OR if this sounds like too much work...
Castor Oil Pack Wrap
Amazon sells castor oil packs, which work just as well. I should note these packs also help with pain from digestion, constipation, insomnia, muscle/joint aches, etc. A win, win all around.
