They say the better you eat, the better you’ll feel, which is especially true when you have endometriosis. Ahead of my second egg retrieval (in a few weeks), I have been attempting to eat an "endo healthy" diet - fruits, veggies, whole grains, omega-3 fatty acids, etc.
There have been studies that suggest women who eat more vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids are more protected from symptoms of endometriosis, while those who consume red meat, trans fats, coffee - the good stuff - may experience the opposite effect.
Personally, I could never give up coffee, but the others are definitely doable.
There are a few working theories re the connection between endometriosis and diet. Gluten is said to cause hormone imbalances and inflame organs, which is no bueno for us endo sisters. Another one however, is extra fat which can stimulate estrogen production. More estrogen means more endo tissue means more pain.
Fat also increases chemicals that stimulate uterine contractions (cramps) so healthy eating certainly has its benefits.
All this being said, I cannot wait for a slice of pizza post-op, but in the meantime, here's a sample menu of what my "diet" has consisted of over the last two weeks or so.
Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist, this is just what I've been enjoying lately!
